This year, we read The Last Cuentista, which was a story about how even though people might want to erase the bad things about our past, we should keep them going. The Last Cuentista is about a girl named Petra, and Haley’s Comet about to strike Earth and wipe out all life as we know it. The government selects a few people to board a spaceship and leave to a planet very far away. On the spaceship, a collective takes over which wants to erase all memory of earth. Petra is the only one who remembers Earth, and this is how she tries to get everyone to remember.

In The Last Cuentista, there was a planet called Sagan, named after Carl Sagan, one of the best astronomers in the world. We got to make our own planet, and I named mine Bazoo. The ruling species in Bazoo is the giraffes which can fly and spit fire. My favorite animal, ever since I was two, was the giraffe, so of course I had to pick that animal to rule my planet. Overall, in this project, I had a lot of fun making an imaginary planet.

After we made our Ideal World, we made a handmade book with local artist Peg Gignoux. In my book, I put in my Ideal World, and an old Indian story called the Ramayan. I decorated it so that it looked like a futuristic city, and I made the cover red. I also had a lot of fun making my book, and this is definitely something that I will remember later.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed all of these fun projects in Language Arts. I hope that we are able to do projects like this next year!
